  • Ayurveda is the knowledge of life. We at Indiatravelmall.com understand that you have a quest of knowledge. You want to know ayurveda philosophically, yet at the same time you want to try leading the ayurveda way of life too. And of course, the last but not the least, ayurveda way of diagnosis and management. So friends here we chat philosophically.

Ayurveda is the oldest and most developed life science of natural healing in the world. Life is the outcome of the union of body (Sharir), sense organs (Indriya), Psyche (Mana) and Soul (Atma). Ayurveda is not merely a system of Healing, but an entire way of life that aims to bring about the perfect balance of the entire personality - body, mind and spirit. Ayurveda is based on theory of tridosha of the three Biological forces - Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Disease arises when there is an imbalance among the three Doshas and aim of the therapy is to bring about the required equilibrium.

Life is a combination of body, sense organs, mind and soul. It is in perpetual movement. Life is which goes on and on. Its stability depends upon our conscious efforts to protect and preserve it. We are concerned with the span and quality of life. The tie up of this combination should remain strong and all should work in perfect coordination. For this one should study all subtle branches of knowledge concerning man and universe. Whatever there is in the macrocosm, so is in the microcosm.

Essentially all the living beings are represented by macrocosmos universe. The sun, the moon, the stars, the planets, the sea, the rivers, the mountains and the rains all are represented in one or the other form in the body of all living beings. Ayurveda is the eternal wisdom of the ancient sages who receive this science as the divine blessings. This wisdom is based on the perfect wholeness of cosmic consciousness through religious introspection and meditation. Epistemological background of ayurveda is mainly provided by the philosophies of the sankhya, yoga, nyaya, vaisheshika, mimansa and vedanta. This is concerned with 25 elements which are primarily responsible for the creation of universe. The first and foremost is "Purusha" that is consciousness then Prakriti (Primordial nature), Mahat (Intellect), Ahankara (sense of individuality or ego-self identification),Manas (Mind), the five sense organs and five motor organs, the five subtle Tanmatras {atomic forms of ether, air, fire, water and earth -the shabda (sound), sparsha (touch), roopa (vision), rasa (taste) and gandha (smell) respectively} and panchmahabhoota (the gross forms of ether, air, fire, water and earth).

Every thing in this universe constitutes five basic elements- ether, air, fire, water and earth which in external universe we see as the sun, the moon and the wind (or movement). The sun or the energy of conversion is represented as fire; The Moon or the authority of cooling and interlinking is represented as the combination of earth, water and wind or the principle of propulsion is due to the combination of air and ether. This reflects that all the natural phenomenas views in the universe are caused by one of the three energies

    1. The energy of movement or propulsion.
    2. The energy of transformation or interchanging.
    3. The energy of cohesion or binding.

Ayurveda names these three biological forces as Vata, Pitta & Kapha respectively these are known as Tridoshas.

These Tridoshas - Vata, Pitta and Kapha maintain the integrity of living organisms in their normal state are responsible for proper nourishment of Seven Dhatus (constructive tissues) - Rasa (the plasma), Rakta ( the blood), Mamsa (the flesh), Meda ( the fat), Asthi ( the bone), Majja ( the bone marrow) & Shukra (the body reproductive tissues) & also for proper evacuation of Malas (the excretory products produced as result of physiological processes in the body). So friends, balance of doshas are responsible for the harmonious function of our body systems this is the key to gateway of health.

There is a French way of saying that a man is what he eats. This idea is present in almost every Indian language too. Indians believe that a man's disposition, general health or the lack of it, physical appearance, are all a result of the kind of food eaten and they look to alter the diet to effect better health. The basis for this idea comes from the ancient Indian medical science of Ayurveda. Ayurveda means the science of healthy living. It has influenced every aspect of life and practically every community in India.
